Configure a User Defined Inventory

Prev Next

User-defined inventory items allow you to add selected entries from the system registry, .ini files, and Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) to the SysTrack system inventory. These items are collected for each system in the tree, tracked and change-logged like built-in inventory items, and available through the SysTrack Report Center. Custom inventory items are listed with alarms, allowing you to enable notifications.

Add an Inventory Item

  1. Go to Configure > System Configuration > Roles.

  2. Click the lock icon in the upper-right corner to unlock Configure for editing.

  3. Select the role.

  4. From the Additional Settings list, select Inventory.

  5. Click the + (plus) icon. In the Create New Inventory dialog box, enter a Name and click OK.

  6. In Setting Type, select one of the following from the drop down menu. The default is WMI Value.

    • WMI Value

    • Registry Value

    • .ini File Value

  7. Complete the fields for the inventory item as follows depending on the Setting Type selected.

  8. Add a WMI Value to the System Inventory:

    • Value Type: DWord; String; Date; or Double.

    • Namespace: Default value is cimv2.

    • Class: Particular class under the selected Namespace.

    • Include All Instances: Determines which instances of the WMI class the agent reads. When selected, the agent reads the property from every instance and records each one. When cleared, the agent reads the property from only one instance. Cleared by default.

    • Instance: Instance of the class.

    • Property: Property of the class.

  9. Add a Registry Value to the System Inventory:

    • Value Type: DWord or String. The default is DWord.

    • Include All Values: Collects every value in the key. While it is selected, Value Name is unavailable and set to *. Cleared by default.

    • Value Name: Name of the value in the key that will be monitored.

    • Maximum Depth: How many levels of subkeys below the key the agent also searches. 1 means the key and its direct subkeys. Accepted values: 1–255. The default is 1.

NOTE: On 64-bit systems, a registry value can appear twice in Resolve inventory. See User Defined Values Displayed Twice in Resolve Inventory.

  10. Add a new .ini File Value to the System Inventory:

    • Value Type: Data type associated with the Value Name.

    • Replace Full Path: Name and path of the .ini file.

    • Section Name: Section within the .ini file that contains the value which will be monitored.

    • Value Name: Particular value that will be monitored for a change.
