Assign Configurations to Systems

Prev Next

A configuration containing roles can be attached to a specific child machine or group of machines on the Assignments page. Use the Systems tab on the Assignments page to view and specify the configuration and connection type for each system. The Config Rules tab allows you to define rules to be applied to specific configurations. If there are multiple SysTrack masters, the Move Systems tab enables you to move systems from one master to another. The Deployment tab lets you roll out deployment by adding groups to stages, or by upgrading all systems at once.

NOTE: Configuration changes are normally done periodically during routine processing. If you want an applied configuration to be accepted immediately, run the Read Configuration command from the Command Dashboard on Configure's Administration page..

Use the Systems Tab

The Systems tab provides a display of the current tree, including System Name, Configuration, Connection Type, Online Status, Agent Version, Install Status, Last Connect, IP Address, Domain, and Operating System. New systems can be added, and the configuration and connection type can be changed for one or more selected systems using the drop-downs in those columns. An Upgrade agent icon appears in the Agent Version column for those systems that can be upgraded. Clicking the icon designates the system for upgrade to the latest version from the master the next time a process check runs.

Add Systems to the Assignments Tree

  1. Click the lock icon on the top right of the page to unlock SysTrack Configure for editing.

  2. Use the drop-down list to display All Systems or only those belonging to a particular group, such as desktops, office systems, or virtual systems. You can also enter text in the Search value field or click the filter icon to specify advanced filter criteria.

  3. Click the + to the right of the drop-down list. The Add A System To The Tree dialog appears.

  4. Specify the system to be added in the Name field.

  5. Select Default or LocalDB database type.

  6. You can add more than one system at a time by optionally entering a line-separated list of systems or by clicking From File and selecting a prepared file containing a line-separated list of systems.

  7. Click the Add button. The specified system or systems are added to the Assignments tree with the default configuration assigned.

  8. Optionally, select one or more systems and use the Configuration drop-down list to select a different configuration or the Connection Type drop-down list to select a different type of connection.

  9. When satisfied with your configuration assignments, click the Save Changes button in the upper right.

  10. Click the lock icon on the top right of the page to end your editing session and lock SysTrack Configure.

Remove a System from the Assignments Tree

  1. Click the lock icon on the top right of the page to unlock SysTrack Configure for editing.

  2. Select the system to be removed from the list of systems in the Assignments tree.

  3. Click the X to the right of the drop-down list. The selected system is removed from the tree.

  4. Click the Save Changes button in the upper right.

  5. Click the lock icon on the top right of the page to end your editing session and lock SysTrack Configure.

Depending on your SysTrack implementation, you may also see buttons to the right of the drop-down list that enable you to repair an Agent installation or cancel an Agent uninstall.

Use the Move Systems Tab

If multiple SysTrack masters are in use, the Move Systems tab is displayed, and any system in the Systems tab tree can be moved to a different SysTrack target master.

Move a System to a New Target Master

  1. Click the lock icon on the top right of the page to unlock SysTrack Configure for editing.

  2. Click the + in the upper right to add one or more systems to the grid. The Move Systems dialog appears.

  3. From the drop-down in the upper left, select the target master that the system or systems will be moved to.

  4. Either choose Select Systems and select one or more systems from the displayed list, or choose Select Group and select the desired group from the list below. You can also enter text in the Search value field or click the filter icon to specify advanced filter criteria.

  5. Click the Move Selected button. Each of the selected systems is shown in the Move Systems grid, along with their Target Master and Request Time. Movement of systems is done at periodic intervals during routine SysTrack processing, and the systems remain in the grid until that time.

  6. Optionally, to remove one or more systems from the Move Systems grid before they are moved, select the desired systems, then click the X in the upper left.

  7. Click the lock icon on the top right of the page to end your editing session and lock SysTrack Configure.

Use the Config Rules Tab

Rules can be created and applied to specific systems on the Config Rules tab. Rules contain SQL and can be enabled or disabled, added or removed. A routine process regularly assigns the specified configuration to systems within a group matching the SQL definition.

Create a Configuration Rule

  1. Click the lock icon on the top right of the page  to unlock SysTrack Configure for editing.

  2. Click the + in the upper left. The SQL dialog appears, enabling you to enter custom SQL for your configuration rule or select a predefined template.

  3. Enter your custom SQL or select a template from the list on the right, which will display that template's SQL. Template parameters may support a list of values. Enter them in the field provided, separating values with a vertical bar | delimiter. You can clear the selected template's SQL by clicking the Clear Template Selection button.

  4. To validate the SQL entered, click the Test SQL button. The test will display a list systems matching the query. The SQL must be valid.

  5. When satisfied with your SQL, click OK to save it as a Config Rule. The new rule is added to the current list.

  6. For each Config Rule listed, you can use the Enable checkbox to enable or disable the rule, and use the Configuration drop-down list to select or change the designated configuration.

NOTE: The Inheritable checkbox determines whether the configuration specified in the rule will be inherited in SysTrack Deploy (on-premises only).

  7. To delete an unwanted rule, select it and click the X in the upper left.

  8. When satisfied with your Config Rules, click the Save Changes button in the upper right.

  9. Click the lock icon on the top right of the page to end your editing session and lock SysTrack Configure.

Use the Deployment Tab

New versions of the SysTrack Agent are deployed to systems in the tree, either in stages or all at once, using the Deployment tab. A pause/play button allows you to pause deployment and start it again. If used, deployment stages are listed, and additional stages can be added. Overall deployment progress, threshold, and stage timeout are charted. Details of the current stage are shown on the right, including threshold percentage, success timeout, start criteria, and start time.

Add, Edit, or Remove Deployment Stages

  1. Click the lock icon on the top right of the page to unlock SysTrack Configure for editing.

  2. Click the Stage + button to start adding a new stage or click the Stage Details button to edit an existing stage. The Stage Manager dialog appears showing the currently defined stages.

  3. To add a new stage, click the + button in the lower left. A new stage is added prior to the Final Stage.

  4. Choose a group from the Select Group drop-down on the left. Groups might include office systems, laptops, remote systems, virtual systems, and physical systems.

  5. Choose Automatic or Manual from the Start Criteria drop-down. Each group with automatic start will run in the sequence shown after completion of the previously staged group. Stages set to manual start must be started from the Deployment tab.

  6. In the Threshold field, enter the percentage of systems in the selected group that must complete deployment for the stage to be considered complete.

  7. In the Success Timeout field, enter the maximum number of days allowed to reach the specified threshold for that stage. If the threshold is not reached within the success timeout period, the deployment process does not continue to the next stage.

  8. To remove one of the stages from the scheduled deployments, click the trash can icon on the right.

  9. When the desired stages have been established, click the Save button. The stages are displayed with the progress, threshold, and timeout for each.

  10. Click the lock icon on the top right of the page to end your editing session and lock SysTrack Configure.
