Install the Browser Extension via Chrome Web Store

Prev Next

The Chrome Web Store always provides the latest version of the SysTrack browser extension, which supports Manifest V3. To use it, you turn off the extension that ships with the SysTrack agent, install the extension from the Chrome Web Store, and deploy it across your organization with Group Policy.

Before You Begin (Windows and Linux Only)

On Windows and Linux systems, SysTrack automatically installs a browser extension for Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome as part of the agent installation (see SysTrack Browser Extension).

Before installing the extension from the Chrome Web Store, you must disable the extension that ships with SysTrack.

If you do not disable the bundled extension:

  • Both extensions run at the same time

  • Duplicate web usage data is recorded

If other extensions are force-installed with a user-level policy, disable the bundled extension before you deploy the SysTrack extension with Group Policy. The SysTrack agent installs its extension with a machine-level policy, and Chrome and Edge ignore a user-level list of force-installed extensions when a machine-level list exists.

To disable the bundled extension:

  1. Go to Configure > System Configuration > Roles.

  2. Select the role that the systems use. You can't edit factory roles.

  3. In the lower section of the page, select Additional Settings > Web Management.

  4. Clear Install Chrome extension and Install Chromium Edge extension.

  5. Click Save Changes.

  6. Run Read Configuration on the systems, and then close and reopen the browser.

  7. On a system, open chrome://policy in Chrome or edge://policy in Edge. Check that ExtensionInstallForcelist no longer lists the extension ID jhcapbneelnpoblfiphhojfkjfjfipop.

Install the Extension from the Chrome Web Store

To install the SysTrack browser extension manually:

  1. Open the Chrome Web Store page for the SysTrack Web Collection extension. You must use the direct link because the extension is intentionally unlisted and does not appear in Chrome Web Store search results. The extension name is lsiwebhook.

  2. Click Get.

  3. Complete the installation.

  4. Open chrome://extensions in Chrome or edge://extensions in Edge, and check that lsiwebhook is listed and turned on.

No changes to the SysTrack agent are required for the extension to function correctly.

Deploy the Extension Using Group Policy

You can deploy the SysTrack browser extension across your organization using Group Policy for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.

Required Values

Use the following values when configuring Group Policy:

  • Extension ID: edbcgbpgfipjpfhkoapcafhpfpfjjadc

  • Update URL: https://clients2.google.com/service/update2/crx

In the policy, enter both values in one entry, separated by a semicolon: edbcgbpgfipjpfhkoapcafhpfpfjjadc;https://clients2.google.com/service/update2/crx

Configure Group Policy

  1. Open the Group Policy Management Editor for the Group Policy Object that applies to the systems.

  2. Go to the policy for force-installed extensions:

    • For Google Chrome: Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > Google > Google Chrome > Extensions > Configure the list of force-installed apps and extensions.

    • For Microsoft Edge: Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > Microsoft Edge > Extensions > Control which extensions are installed silently.

If other extensions are force-installed with a user-level policy, start from User Configuration and add the SysTrack extension to the same list as the other extensions.

  3. Select Enabled, click Show, and add the entry with the extension ID and update URL.

  4. Save and apply the policy.

  5. On a system that the policy applies to, open chrome://policy in Chrome or edge://policy in Edge, and check that ExtensionInstallForcelist lists edbcgbpgfipjpfhkoapcafhpfpfjjadc. Then open chrome://extensions or edge://extensions, and check that lsiwebhook is listed.

Applying this policy ensures that the SysTrack browser extension installs automatically on all devices governed by the policy.

Extension IDs

The extension that ships with the SysTrack agent and the Chrome Web Store version are two extensions with different IDs. For the IDs of all SysTrack browser extensions, see SysTrack Browser Extension IDs.
