# SQL Server Administration User Guide

## Overview

This DEX Pack is used to monitor SQL servers. It provides a detailed inventory of these servers as well as many performance metrics. Use this DEX Pack to identify system issues affecting your enterprise’s SQL servers.

## How This Feature Helps You

The SQL Server Administration DEX pack offers several benefits that can significantly enhance the management and performance of SQL Server environments. Key advantages:

**Comprehensive Inventory**: It provides a detailed inventory of SQL servers, instances, and databases, giving a clear overview of the SQL Server landscape within the organization.

**Health Monitoring**: The DEX pack includes tools for monitoring the health of SQL servers, identifying system issues such as latency, CPU utilization, and disk utilization that may impact performance.

**Performance Metrics**: It offers detailed performance metrics, allowing administrators to track and optimize the performance of SQL servers over time.

**Proactive Issue Resolution**: By identifying and highlighting the top factors impacting server health, the DEX pack enables proactive troubleshooting and resolution of issues before they affect productivity.

**Trend Analysis**: It provides health trend comparisons and detailed reports, helping to understand the performance trends and make informed decisions for future improvements.

These features collectively contribute to a more efficient, reliable, and well-managed SQL Server environment.

### SQL Server Inventory and Overview

### Hardware Overview

If your enterprise has any SQL servers that are not listed as a **Server** in SysTrack, you may want to set the **Only include Servers** drop-down to **No**.

Data from **SQL Server Express** is excluded by default because that edition is often used for tests or practice.

**Health Score** shows the percentage of time where productivity was not negatively impacted by system issues. System issues can include a variety of factors such as latency, CPU utilization, and disk utilization. In general, a lower Health Score indicates that a server is affected by system issues more often. This score is an average for a server during the **past 30 days**.

For example, consider a server with an average Health Score of 85. This server is negatively impacted by system issues for 15% of its active time. If this server is active for 10 hours a day, then it is usually impacted by system issues for 1.5 hours each day.

**Memory Utilized**, **CPU Utilized**, and **Disk Utilized** all indicate an average percent utilization across the **past 30 days**.

Double-click any of the systems in this table to more closely investigate that system in **Resolve**.

### Inventory Overview (Selected Group)

This graph shows the number of **instances** and **databases** created for different editions of **SQL Server**. This graph only includes data from the Group selected in **Hardware Overview**.

### Database Details (Selected System)

This table shows additional details about the **databases** created for the selected system.

## SQL Server Performance

### Health Overview

This **Health Score** data mirrors the data from the Hardware Overview pane, except that this data is collected from the **past week**.

### Top 5 Health Impacts (Selected System)

This graph shows which factors have the highest negative impact on the selected system’s Health Score. Hover over a category to see the amount of active time impacted by that system issue. These impact minutes are summed from the **past 30 days**.

### Health Trend Comparison (Selected System vs Average)

This graph compares the **Health Score** of the selected system to the average Health Score for the Group selected in **Health Overview**. This data is from the **past 30 days**.

### Health Trend Details (Selected System)

This graph shows the amount of time the selected system was impacted by system issues each day. Troubleshoot these issues in **Resolve** by double-clicking the selected system in **Health Overview**.

### Additional Performance Metrics (Selected System)

This table shows various performance metrics for the selected system over the **past week**.

**Logical Connections** and **User Connections** are a sum of the data from that day. **Errors**, **Full Scans**, **Index Searches**, and **Batch Requests** are all an average of that data per second. **Buffer Cache Hit Ratio** is a daily average. **Page Life Expectancy** is measured once each day.

To view more detailed data for any of these metrics, use **Performance Metric Trends (Selected System)**. Troubleshoot these issues in **Resolve** by double-clicking the selected system in **Health Overview**.

### Performance Metric Trends (Selected System)

This graph shows data for the selected performance metric and system over the **past week**.
